Porte Photos’ Daily Quote: August 3rd

If you learn something new every day,
you can teach something new every day.

~ Martha Stewart
Entertainer Born: August 3, 1941

Porte Ponderings:

Having my grandson’s with me for this week and next reminds me of the wonderment of childhood and learning new things.

I like to hope that I am able to teach the same things to my grandchildren and others around me.

Martha Stewart has been an amazing inspiration to us all. She has had problems, lived through them and carried on. Like her role in “The Book Club” she just keeps on going and trying to live the best life she can.

At 81 Martha appeared on the cover of  Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Then the controversy started all over again. Was the picture touched up or Au Naturel?

Always a topic of interest, I think Martha Stewart inspires all of us to learn new things, it’s OK to make mistakes and just keep going. I hope I can inspire these qualities in my grandchildren.

Isn’t elegance
forgetting what one is wearing?

~ Yves Saint Laurent

Porte Ponderings:

If elegance is forgetting what one is wearing, no one has more elegance than my grandsons playing in the local creek. Grandma Camp Part II started with swimming lessons early in the morning, then after a lunch of chicken noodle soup we headed to the park to play in the creek. My grandsons, with their nets, wadded in the creek to catch crayfish, frogs and other delights. Our hunting expedition always finishes with the release of the day’s catch into the stream for others to enjoy.

The day was completed with a soccer game. Well done!!!

Porte Photos: Welcome August

August used to be a sad month for me.
As the days went on, the thought of school starting weighed heavily upon my young frame.
That, coupled with the oppressive heat and humidity of my native Washington, D.C., only seemed to heighten the misery.

Porte Ponderings:

August marches the unofficial beginning of the end to summer.

The second half of summer holidays for school students.

During my working years, I was lucky enough to spend the first weeks of August at my friend’s cottage on Oxbow lake. Then with my sisters at the same cottage. Then the cottage was sold. We all retired and my friend left for the west coast to be closer to her children.

This year there are 2 supermoons. Hopefully, at least one will be clear enough to see and get some photographs of. Usually they are obscured by clouds and rain. I’d also like to try taking some long exposure night sky photos at the trailer. The night sky at the trailer should be much more vivid than the sky in town.

Grandma camp is in full swing. Two weeks with my granddaughter are now complete and I have my grandsons in the month of August. Swimming lessons are underway.

So much to do and so little summer left to do it. If only July would last forever.
