No good deed will go unpunished.
After saving Patsie from the side of the road we returned home with her.
She is now walking and starting to take note of her surroundings. Harold has fallen in love with her.
Only to find out that our grandson is deathly allergic to dogs that shed hair. He actually has to use an EpiPen and get to ER within 15 minutes. We’re just lucky that Rickie is a non-shedding dog so my grandson is OK with him. At any rate, we have to re-home her. Today she is going to live at my step-son’s place with 3 other rescue dogs. I know she will be safe, loved and well cared for. She will also enjoy the company of the other animals in her new home.
It really is the only thing to do.
I’m so grateful that my step-son wants her and she won’t be going to a stranger. At least we can go to see her and continue to see her improvements.
I hope there is a special kind of hell for people who neglect animals as she was neglected. I would scoop her up again in a heart beat. No dog deserves to not be fed, deprived of water and neglected. Her nails were so long she could no longer walk. The groomer said leaving nails like that can actually break their legs as well as make their feet misshapen. Just imagine walking on high heels backwards with your toes 6″ off the ground and your heels on the ground. How long could you do it? Now imagine you had no choice.

I finally decided to go for my first bike ride on Sunday Morning.
On my way home there was a small, mal-nourished dog on the side of the road. I approached her, picked her up and took her home to try to find her owner and help her.
I’ve contacted the local Animal Shelters and posted her pictures, but she’s been alone for a very long time. Mangy hind quarters, sunken abdomen, long nails, dirty. She obviously had never been on a leash and doesn’t seem to be housetrained. She has already stolen my husband’s heart.

I have a different look on life.
I just try to be a little more tolerant and a little bit more centered about what’s going on around me and not so emotional.

October Kayaking with my sister we came upon a cormorant sitting on a log cleaning itself. There was absolute silence around us. Then she blew a bubble and smacked it. The sound was like a gunshot as it echoed on the channel. The cormorant immediately hung her wings up looking bigger and more fierce. Snap went the camera. As soon as she determined it was safe he flew off. After all she thought she had found the perfect sanctuary during hunting season in the Provincial Park. Stop the hunt. https://euc.yorku.ca/research-spotlight/ontarios-cormorant-hunt-and-what-it-means-for-its-future/
Growing older does permit you to sit back and be more patient. Thank goodness the mood swings have slowed to a stop and time can be savoured.
This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving. A time to get together with family and friends. A time to be thankful for everything we have. Lift up a toast: Live long and prosper.

The beginning of September always brings a sense of re-newal.
New books, pens, colouring pencils, schools and bags.
Dressed your best for the first day of school.
Excitement building as you wait for the bus.
Although I’m well past my first day of school, I believe learning is a life long experience, so today I’m headed to Point Peele National Park with my sister and a couple of kayaks to kayak the marshes for the first time. If we don’t get lost I’m hoping we can also take the tram to the point. Maybe we’ll be lucky and see the migration of the Monarchs.
