On National Rescue Dog Day, get a dog. Shelters are the best place to get a dog. In Florida many of the shelters are still “Kill Shelters.”

In February 2014 the Tampa Shelter was scheduled to “kill” most of their “inventory” as they were over capacity. The local radio station stepped in and sponsored the adoptions, so the dogs were only $20 (including tags, neutering, shots and microchipping). Rickie has been a member of our family ever since. His name from the shelter was Beach Boy, but we preferred the name Rickie and so did he. His estimated his age was 5 1/2. Now 16 1/2, he’s still my walking companion. And his favorite beach activity is to chase waves, bark and bite at them. ❤

Our local Horticultural Society is having their plant sale today. Lots of plants at discounted prices. Taken from their gardens to share. ❤

An adolescent raccoon took refuge in my maple tree for the day. Tucked up among the branches, hiding her eyes, as if she was invisible to the world. Looking for her forever home and realizing this is only a temporary hiding place. Gone the next day to another refuge, maybe her new nest.

World Tuna Day. I wondered if it was to eat tuna or save the tuna. So I looked it up and the day is to acknowledge the importance of tuna as a food source. Tuna needs to be harvested responsibly to ensure it’s continued availability.
