Porte Ponderings:

The first day of our holiday to Calgary Alberta started very early. We arrived at 8:30 AM and couldn’t check into our room until 4PM. So, after sleeping in the car and charging up Harold’s scooter, we went to Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. The building was only open until 4 so this worked perfectly. 400 acres in the city of Calgary, with pave walking paths, beside the Bow river. Lots of water birds to see. The Common Merganser stole the show but there were also lots of Wood Ducks and Canada Geese.

“This is my homeland;
no one can kick me out”

~ Yasser Arafat
Former Palestinian leader
Born on: 24th August 1929

Porte Ponderings:

From the St Bartholomew Massacre of Protestants in 1572 Paris (more than 30,000 murdered) to today’s Genocide in Gaza, Religious battles continue. People killing people because of a difference in heritage and religion needs to stop.

Children always pay the price of wars started and continued by men in safe havens.

According to Wikipedia: As of 30 July 2025, over 63,000 people (61,805 Palestinians[4] and 1,983 Israelis[c]) have been reported killed in the Gaza war according to the Gaza Health Ministry (GHM) and Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as 217 journalists and media workers,[46][d] 120 academics,[49] and over 224 humanitarian aid workers, a number that includes 179 employees of UNRWA.[50] Scholars have estimated 80% of Palestinians killed are civilians.[6][5][7][51] A study by OHCHR, which verified fatalities from three independent sources, found that 70% of the Palestinians killed in residential buildings or similar housing were women and children.[52][53]

Now they are starving to death as the genocide continues and the world stands by and watches……….

“Miracle Treat Day History

Miracle Treat Day promotes the support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals as sponsored by Dairy Queen. This observance is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for children’s health. On this day, participating Dairy Queen locations donate the proceeds from Blizzard® Treat sales to the local Children’s Miracle Network member hospital, allowing these hospitals to provide essential medical care, life-saving research, and educational resources to young patients in need.

The history of Miracle Treat Day dates back to 1984 when the Children’s Miracle Network was established in the United States. The organization has since expanded its reach to Canada, with the first Canadian Miracle Treat Day taking place in 2003. To date, the event has successfully raised over $157 million for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. In Canada, 12 children’s hospitals are members of this network, each providing expert care and supporting the physical and mental well-being of Canadian children and their families.

On this day, Canadians visit participating Dairy Queen locations to purchase their favourite Blizzard® Treat and share their experiences using the hashtag #MiracleTreatDay on social media. Through this support, Dairy Queen helps raise awareness and critical funds for a cause that impacts millions of families across the country.” – https://www.wincalendar.com/ca/Miracle-Treat-Day
