Week 2 of Grandma Camp. The temperature of Lake Erie has now reached bath tub comfortable. I joined my eldest grandson swimming in the clear calm lake. I have never seen the lake be so clear and so calm for so many days in a row.

Or as my Uncle Bill used to say: Education is a light load to carry.
Although my Uncle Bill has been gone for many years, he was the one responsible to help me pay for my education. He not only helped me get a summer job with Union Gas, but gave me a ride to work everyday and even loaned me his car when I had to work on a Saturday. Gone too soon. Remembered always.

A monthly event. National Play Outside Day. The first Saturday of every month celebrates this National Day in the USA. I say it should be every day. Make play a part of your day. Allow at least 1 hour of play outside. If you don’t have the time allow 2 hours. 😉

Finally a day when I could go kayaking.
My favorite spot is the Old Ausable Chanel at Pinery Provincial Park.
I spotted a little movement among the Lily pads. There were 2 little ducklings swimming and eating. No parents or siblings in sight. They stuck together playing never very far from each other. They were so light they could walk on the lily pads. This baby was just climbing up from the water. They didn’t even seem afraid as I sat very still in the kayak. Just 2 babies comforting each other. Their chances for survival alone on the channel were very slim. But they had each other for the moment.
Well, according to AI: “Wood Ducks do leave their young after a relatively short period. While the mother duck stays with the ducklings for about a day after hatching, guiding them to a body of water and providing initial protection, she then leaves them to become independent. The ducklings are precocial, meaning they are well-developed at hatching and capable of foraging for themselves.“
