“The important thing is not the camera but the eye”
~ Alfred Eisenstaedt Photographer Born on: 6th December 1898
Porte Ponderings:
Yes, the vision is more important than the camera, but there’s something to be said about new technology. A photographer always wants lighter, newer, more pixels….. I did upgrade to the Nikon Z7II. The learning curve is much greater than I had anticipated. The menu has the same look and feel, but there are differences. A touch screen on the back viewing panel over rides menu choices. So something as simple as how I want to save the files needs to be done with the I button. The number of pixels is twice what I had on the D750. Now file size is also twice as much, so I have to be even more careful with file storage.
So, to make things even more complicated, I bought a new Laptop. Faster, bigger, better….
But I need to download my photography software and learn Windows 11.
2024 has been the year of upgrades and learning for Porte Photos.
I may have retired from my career job, but I will continue to plod on with my passions……
“Retire from What? Life? I will only retire when I am dead!”

“Things can change in an instant, so why not live truthfully?”
~ Jason Collins First NBA basketball player to come out of the closet and openly admit he’s gay Born on: 2nd December 1978
Porte Ponderings:
This photo is an example of how quickly things can change. For just a moment the rising sun shone through the clouds and illuminated the willow trees a golden hue. Storm clouds were in the background. Just in time for me to snap a picture with my new Nikon Z7II. There is a much steeper learning curve than I had anticipated, but set on auto and framing the picture just so I managed to capture this stunning moment. My sister just had time to say it should be a beautiful picture and the sun was hidden behind a cloud.
The only guarantee we have is that time will march on. You might as well be true to yourself and live in the present with your true self.
If we do not abolish war on this earth, then surely one day war will abolish us from the earth. ~ Harry S Truman 33rd U.S. president Born on: 8th May 1884
Porte Ponderings:
The world stands by doing nothing as Israel continues the genocide in Gaza. Major access for human aid from Egypt have been cut-off. One million civilians were told to get out of a major city within 24 hours. Finally the USA has stopped shipment of military supplies to Israel. Probably too little, too late.
DAILY TAROT: Q QUEEN OF CUPS
I trust my inner voice and treat myself with compassion.
Awaited pleasures and success are now coming due. People in high position not only offer you assistance, but may bestow some sort of recognition on you.
Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark.

Porte Ponderings:
So much to do. So little time. With the fence blown down we are facing the reality that the garage needs to be repaired and painted. We used some of the broken fence boards to repair the bottom sill of the garage and bought paint, barn red paint was almost $100 cheaper than any other colour, so the garage will be barn red. If there is any left over the shed will also be barn red. Today’s task is to finish the repairs and scape off the loose paint to prepare the for new.
I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognized wiser than oneself.
Getting close to the end of 2023 we start to re-evaluate what we’ve done in the past year and develop our New Year’s Resolution.
I do like working on and publishing Porte Photos’ Daily Quote. All of the photographs/paintings are mine and credit is given to the appropriate wise person. I usually base the Daily Quote on a famous person’s birthday, but sometimes I’ll wander and use a quote that is more seasonal or thought provoking.
So part of my New Year’s Resolution will be to continue this daily exercise. 😉
I’ve always hoped that this collection of my art would help people find me as a form of advertising to see the type of photos and quality of my work.
