What wisdom can you find
that is greater than kindness?

~ Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Philosopher

Porte Ponderings:

Todays’ Pic was taken while walking at Port Glasgow. Two cats on a porch. One blissfully sleeping. The other on guard ready to spring. Both free to come and go as they please.

Friday before the Canada Day Long Weekend. I’m hoping to finally get out kayaking. Fond farewells to tradition at Kin Camp and Birthday Parties. Fireworks. Food. Family. Friends.

The only thing worse
than being blind
is having sight but no vision.

~ Helen Keller
Blind American author and political activist

Porte Ponderings:

Two barn swallows sitting on a railing in front of a door. A ghost looking from behind the glass, unnoticed until the picture is edited for today’s Pic. Are there really ghosts? Or just reflections of unknown shadows?

This summer is going to be so busy. Everything crammed into such a short period of time. 2 weeks a piece for 3 of my Grandchildren leaves only 2 weeks for self-indulgence. Going to see Donny Osmond, my brother-in-law’s 65th birthday party, my grand nephew’s 1st birthday, Last Party at Kin Camp (now under new ownership), Anniversaries, Family Reunions, daily walks…..

So if you want to capture any special events, don’t forget a good photographer to turn those moments into memories:

Special Anniversaries should be celebrated.
Why not book a private photo session?

Porte Photos’ Daily Quote: October 20th

There was a little girl in California
who was part of the second class
to integrate her public schools
and she was bused to school every day.
That little girl was me.

~ Kamala Harris
American – Vice President Born: October 20, 1964

Porte Ponderings:

Integration was an important step towards eliminating discrimination. All children would receive the same education opportunities. Happy Birthday Kamala Harris and thankyou for your courage to get on the bus and go to school.

Unfortunately all these years later it breaks my heart to see new private schools being established, black only, female only gyms, my religion only…..These seem like such a step backwards. What’s next? White only? Male only clubs?

Today is Local Radio Day in the United Kingdom. I love my local radio station. It plays every morning as I have my first coffee and catch up on Facebook Posts and my e-mail. MyFM Strathroy keeps me up to date with the local events and politics. Thank you to our local radio stations.

Porte Photos’ Daily Quote: August 31st

I would rather be loved
than have money and
all that other stuff.

~ Richard Gere
American – Actor Born: August 31, 1949

Porte Ponderings:

So, the age old question of what is more important Love or Money.

It is so idealistic to say Love is the most important thing, but that’s so easy to say if you have a good comfortable life.

A recent study in Canada showed that if you give a windfall amount of $7,500 to a homeless person, they will take that money, find a home and improve their living conditions. Contrary to the belief that they would just spend it on drugs or alcohol, they improved their lives and were able to get off the streets and continued to improve their ‘stability’ 6 months later. So, a certain amount of money is needed for a home and to give hope out of a hopeless situation.

Love is much easier when you have that minimum level of security.

I think both are needed.

As the Irish prayer says: may you have enough.

May you have enough happiness to keep you sweet,
enough trials to keep you strong,
enough sorrow to keep you human,
enough hope to keep you happy, enough failure to keep you humble,
enough success to keep you eager, enough friends to give you comfort, enough faith and courage in yourself to banish sadness, enough wealth to meet your needs and one thing more; Enough determination to make each day a more wonderful day than the one before.

I’m one of the fortunate people that has enough.

I took my tri-pod on my walk yesterday and took multiple shots using my auto-bracketing feature. I tried the HDR feature in Corel Paintshop Pro to combine the sets of photos into HDR. The combined photos seem to have more depth with the multiple layers, so it is a technique I will probably try again for landscape photos.
