No, Orangemen’s Day isn’t a day to celebrate orange men like Donald Trump.
It’s a Provincial holiday in Newfoundland. Parades and celebrations are held. It is believed that if it rains on Orangemen’s Day it will rain for 40 days.

Porte Ponderings:
Finally a day when I could go kayaking.
My favorite spot is the Old Ausable Chanel at Pinery Provincial Park.
I spotted a little movement among the Lily pads. There were 2 little ducklings swimming and eating. No parents or siblings in sight. They stuck together playing never very far from each other. They were so light they could walk on the lily pads. This baby was just climbing up from the water. They didn’t even seem afraid as I sat very still in the kayak. Just 2 babies comforting each other. Their chances for survival alone on the channel were very slim. But they had each other for the moment.
Well, according to AI: “Wood Ducks do leave their young after a relatively short period. While the mother duck stays with the ducklings for about a day after hatching, guiding them to a body of water and providing initial protection, she then leaves them to become independent. The ducklings are precocial, meaning they are well-developed at hatching and capable of foraging for themselves.“

Porte Ponderings:
On our first bike ride of the year the Old Ausable Channel was the lowest I’ve ever seen it.
I’m hoping the recent rain storms have raised the levels significantly. Otherwise I won’t be capable of getting out at my favorite destination. The water doesn’t even reach the dock.
“Money can’t buy love, but it improves your bargaining position”

Yes, money can improve your bargaining position.
In the news today the Republicans in the USA are introducing a new Gold Card. For only $5Million you can purchase a Gold Card. The Gold Card will let you live and work in the USA.
Who said America isn’t being sold to the highest bidders?
I can’t wait for spring. Kayaking on the Old Ausable Chanel in Pinery Provincial Park. Counting the painted turtles. Maybe I can break my personal record of 149.
