Insulin is not a cure for diabetes;
it is a treatment.

It enables the diabetic to burn sufficient carbohydrates, so that proteins and fats may be added to the diet in sufficient quantities to provide energy for the economic burdens of life”

Porte Ponderings:

Like a bridge over a river, insulin helps by covering the gap between diabetes and life.

Always balancing the sugar levels. Constant monitoring and adjustments to maintain health and avoid the side effects of diabetes. Too little insulin and sugar levels go up endangering internal organs and “high” outbursts. Too much insulin and you can go into a coma. Just sweeping the floors could cause a sugar low. Routine and regularity for activity and diet help maintain a steady balance.

Recent new medications have been introduced to help slow down the digestive system and level out sugar levels. However, too much and you end up with pancreatitis.

My one daughter-in-law had kidney and pancreas transplant. No more diabetes, just antirejection drugs. Usually transplants only last so long and she is nearing the end of the expected duration. 😦

Keep up the research to find a cure.

to compensate him for what he isn’t.
A sense of humour was provided
to console him for what he is”

Porte Ponderings:

The main purpose for our trip to Calgary was to meet Harold’s biological brother Dave for the first time. We had an amazing meal that Dave’s wife Barb insisted on paying for at Taste of Italy in Calgary. The conversation and wine was amazing. With promises of a second meeting on Friday, I didn’t take any pictures of our intimate group. Never wait to take pictures. Our second meeting was cancelled and we may never be able to see them in person again.

On the Thursday, I went for a drive to see the Alberta badlands. Dave told me about how the Red River had cut deep into the ground and exposed layers of history. Even the glaciers hadn’t erased the huge cut into the surface of the earth. There was even the Royal Tyrrell Museum that I shouldn’t miss on my trip to Calgary. This wasn’t something Harold was interested in so I went solo into the badlands. So much to see.
