My father

He only did what dads
are supposed to do:
be there.

Porte Ponderings:
Today would have been my Father’s Birthday. With little academic background he was a very smart man. Very few were ever able to beat him at checkers. He loved playing cribbage and doing word search puzzles in the weekend comics. I remember him and Mom taking dance lessons from a good friend in our living room. Everyone you met had to tell you he was a good sh*t. To which my mother would hug him and say “And everyone needs one of those once in a while.” My Mom was his cornerstone. He was very skilled with practical things and became a high pressure welder when I was 16. That was a major change in our lifestyle as he joined the Welder’s Union. Being a Union Member provided medical and dental benefits. It also ensured he would have a pension when he retired.
