For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.

Porte Musings:

Missing my cats as they are at home living a life of luxury with my sons taking care of them. But remember Respect Your Cat Day. They may be very independent, but once one falls in love with you, you become part of their world.

Pull them out, toss them or just let them grow wild today is Weed Appreciation Day. Growing between the pavement cracks, in the vegetable garden and the open fields. You really need to acknowledge them and their tenuousness.

If you are close to your little ones, grab a picture book and celebrate Children’s Picture Book Day.

One of my favorite cakes is Black Forest. Layers of chocolate soaked in rum and covered in sweet cherries. I’ll be celebrating National Black Forest Cake Day with a big slice. Mmmm….. 😉

Walking on the boardwalk at Wilderness Park I met some fellow birders from Maine and Washington that had come to Hillsborough County to celebrate their Mother’s 90th birthday. They told me about the Limpkins that they saw by the boat launch. I was afraid the Limpkins would be gone by the time I got to the boat launch, but the pair of Limpkins were still there foraging. Dotted birds about the size of a small fawn they blended into the foliage. So I ventured to another spot and was able to shoot the one I used in today’s quote. What took me by surprise was how loudly they shrieked and how gracefully they were able to fly. Thank goodness Birders are so willing to share.

Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

Palm Sunday is celebrated by Christians as the day that Christ rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and praises were sung to him by everyone. Palm branches were placed on the path to make the ride easier and songs of Hosannas were sung loudly by the crowds of worshippers. The celebrations would be short lived and within the week Christ would be crucified, only to rise from the dead to finish teaching his disciples before his final ascension to heaven, leaving with a promise that he would return.

The teachings of “love your neighbour as yourself” would linger on as today is also Neighbour Day. A kind gesture or word to celebrate the wonderful neighbours we have.

In a world where everything is in its place and a there is place for everything, weeds remind us of the uncontrollable and wild treasures. After all weeds are just plants growing somewhere we don’t want them to. So celebrate the determination of weeds on Weed Appreciation Day as you clear the garden for the approaching new growing season.
