Holidays and Celebrations:
Porte Musings:
February 26th is the Jewish celebration of Purim. The day they remember being saved from death in the Persian Empire by the influence of Queen Esther (Esther was a Jewish maid who became Queen.) The day is celebrated with a number of obligations or mitzvot. Some of the obligations include: sharing food and drink; giving food or money equivalent to food for 2 people; and reading the scroll of Esther.
Totally unconnected to Purim, today is a good day to remember and Tell a Fairy Tale, Fairy tales date back almost 6,500 years to the bronze age. They usually begin with “Once upon a time” and have been handed down through generations. Little Red Riding Hood; Cinderella; and Jack & the Bean Stock are probably the most familiar. So if you’re lucky enough cuddle up with your grandchildren and Tell a Fair Tale.
For Pete’s Sake Day we can all wonder who is Pete and why do we do things for his sake?
