My Grandmother wore thick glasses and seldom remembered to clean them. I remember my Aunt walking into Grandma’s place, gently taking Grandma’s glasses and cleaning then replacing them. The world must have seemed better whenever my Aunt did this small task for my Grandmother. So, clean your glasses and look again. Maybe the world isn’t so grey and blotchy.
When we were allowed to travel, before the Pandemic, we went for a 2 week vacation to Dominican Republic. One of my favorite memories is of the Umbrella lined street in Sosua. I thought there would be no better way to celebrate Umbrella Day than with the memory of Sosua and the colourful umbrella lined street where people were walking slowly and a dog was laying lazily.
On the forth day of Valentine’s week we celebrate Teddy Day. A day set aside for lover’s to give each other teddy bears, but don’t limit it to just lovers. Anyone can participate. Give teddys to your favorite child or friend. I’m certain it will brighten their day.
Now if you really want to know what your capacities are try using a load line like you see on the ships. Introduced by Samuel Plimsoll, load lines were only a small part of the Safety measures and regulations he supported for sailors. Workers’ safety wasn’t considered when so many were forced to work in “coffin” ships. When load lines were introduced they helped officials easily gauge how much was in the ships and if they could safely handle more or had to have some of the load removed. The red line was not to be sunk or else the ship might also sink under the load. So let’s celebrate Plimsoll Day and a simple red line that saved thousands.
