Holidays and Celebrations:
Porte Musings:
Historically this is the best day to shop for travel as we celebrate National Shop for Travel Day. With the pandemic the CDC (Center for Disease Control) Americans have been advised not to travel to Canada due to our high COVID numbers. Is it a political move as the USA has been identified as reduced travel for Canadians? A tit for tat situation or a sad reality that the numbers are at a record high? Commercial truck drivers from the USA are now required to be fully vaccinated to drive into Canada.
Even Milk is being attacked. Milk is no longer on the Canadian Food Guide as a daily requirement. But it is still the easiest source of protein, magnesium and calcium as well as being fortified with vitamin D in the war against rickets. So raise a glass of Milk on National Milk Day and if you want add a couple of cookies to celebrate. 😉
It’s a tough time in Canadian History. All the faults of our predecessors are being judged according to today’s standards. Monuments of our historic leaders are being defaced and removed. Names are being changed to hide our tumultuous past. Even our first Prime Minister is being negated. Sir John A MacDonald Day is being eliminated from our vocabulary. I’m afraid when we remove all these references we hide the truth. When there are no more “Indian Roads” how will it change the struggles and racism? When re-naming the roads, if it is required, it should be to tribal names like Mohawk Trail, or Cherokee Crescent or Muncee Mile. Don’t eliminate the indigenous presence of our landmarks or historical significant markers or you will truly loose your way by not acknowledging the suffering of indigenous people in Canadian history. Instead strive for equality and a better future for all Canadians.
