Porte Musings:

Today is probably one of the Holiest Days as Christians celebrate Good Friday, Jews celebrate the 1st day of Passover and Muslims celebrate the 14th day of Ramadan.

Good Friday.

World Art Day falls on Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday. So admire works of art today or make some of your own. Or just learn something new, like a wallaby is a marsupial that looks like a small kangaroo.

It’s kind of ironic that National Glazed Spiral Ham Day falls on Good Friday this year. Meat isn’t to be consumed by Christians and neither Muslims nor Jews eat pork. So you may want to put off celebrating with a glazed spiral ham until tomorrow. 😉

Porte Musings:

I’m uncertain why today is Jackie Robinson Day. His birthday is in January. He certainly deserves to have a day in remembrance of his struggles as the first Black Man to play baseball professionally. So wear a 42 today in remembrance of Jackie Robinson.

Today, unfortunately is also Titanic Remembrance Day. The day the unsinkable ship hit an iceberg and sank killing about 1,500 passengers because there weren’t enough life boats. Since then we have developed more stringent safety regulations for ships. I’m looking forward to being able to take a cruise again when the pandemic restrictions are lifted and the borders are re-opened again for travel.

A COVID-19 outbreak in a local meat packaging plant, in London Ontario, will lead McDonalds to import chicken McNuggets from the USA until the plant can be safely re-opened. So celebrate McDonald’s Day with a Big Mac and fries.

April the 15th is a birthday for many well known and loved people, from Leonardo Da Vinci to Roy Clark and Elizabeth Montgomery. All great artists. So celebrate World Art Day by either studying, enjoying or making some are of your own. I’ve been very glad to learn to paint during the Stay at Home orders. The online tutorials by Jesse Robertson are excellent. I can’t wait to attend one in person.

I transplanted some of my seedlings into larger containers yesterday.  I’m so glad I have my greenhouse to play in on cold days like today.

The COVID-19 Pandemic continues and we are still self isolating.  Even a brief trip to the drug store for supplies is wrought with danger and fear.  The cashier is behind a plexiglass shield and wears a mask.  Thank goodness for tap technology so we don’t need to exchange money or key in our passcodes.

Unfortunately USA is still the leader for number of confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19.  President Trump’s response is to stop all funding to WHO (World Health Organization) because he didn’t understand their advice regarding COVID-19 and failed to take action.  He also threatening to fire his major Health Care Advisor.   Luckily State Politicians care about their people’s lives and aren’t opening up or lifting the restrictions yet.
