Porte Photos’ Daily Quote: January 7, 2023

Tell me what you feel in your room
when the full moon is shining in upon you
and your lamp is dying out,
and I will tell you how old you are,
and I shall know if you are happy.

Porte Ponderings:

The first Full mOOn of 2023, the Wolf Moon rose up on the Epiphany (6th of January, the celebration of the baptism of Jesus)

Full moons with all of their wonder, tales and tides. Tales of creatures only appearing on full moons, or only seen during a full moon. Tides at their highest and majical happenings. Seasons changing and wolves howling. Full moons mark the passage of time.

Art imitates life was seen as being so true this week as on the Epiphany in Tarpon Springs, Florida, young Greek Orthodox men gather to dive into the waters to retreive a sacred cross for blessings for the next year. In Nora Roberts trilogy Dragon Heart Legacy, young people dive into the waters to retrieve a sacred sword and become the leader (taoiseich). I’m certain these parallels were drawn on by the author as age old mythology relies on the finding of a sacred object in the waters.

Porte Musings:

Celebrating World Tourism Day during a Pandemic is difficult, but as borders slowly open we dream about trips and do our research so we’re ready just as soon as we can travel.

In the meantime we’ll celebrate Family Day and gather with our families, thankful that we can see them and aren’t under total lockdown.

We’ll also get out the most recent Ancestry.ca layouts and go over the stories of our roots.

Daily Quote: September 27, 2020

I’m not interested in age.
People who tell me their age are silly.
You’re as old as you feel.

Holidays and Celebrations:

World Tourism Day

Daughters Day – India

Yom Kippur-Jewish Holiday (Begins tonight)

National No Excuses Day

My Grandmother always quoted the shorter version: You’re only as old as you feel. At 90 she told me that she didn’t feel or think any differently than when she was 18. Life speeds by so quickly. Her favorite decade was when she was in her 40’s. Limitations put on her because of her age must have been very frustrating. She never lost her zeal for life or her desire to live independently.

So no Excuses. Start that project today. Go for that walk. Ride a bike. Dance. Sing. Laugh. Love. Live while you can.
