Just living is not enough…
one must have sunshine,
freedom, and a little flower.

Porte Musings:

Yes, it’s not enough to live, you must have all the extras including love, sunshine, art, dance, flowers and good food.

Not everyone sees things the same way. My youngest grandson has autism but is fully functional. When he loves, he loves unconditionally. So celebrate Autism Awareness Day with a piece of the puzzle.

For my Palestinian daughter-in-law and Muslims around the world today is the 1st Day of Ramadan.

Ann Landers proclaimed today as Reconciliation Day. A day to forgive past digressions and get back together with loved ones. I pray my sisters will do this before it’s too late. Quit being petty and let those feelings of betrayal go. Get back to being family and friends.

Have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich today to celebrate National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. 😉

Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale.

Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

April the 2nd is International Children’s Book Day. Celebrated annually on Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday to remember the joy of his life, writing and reading for children. So be certain to pick up a book and read a children’s story if not to a child on your lap (due to COVID-19 Pandemic restrictions) then make a video of you reading and send it to someone.

One of my grandchildren has been diagnosed with Autism. We love the routines he has established. He loves to say hello with our greeting routine and it is such a joy as he asks for the nth time how we are doing today. The good-bye routines are also heartwarming, as he insists on a big hug and a kiss (even on the 3rd time as his parents are trying to get out the door). So today we hope to shine some light on Autism Awareness Day and choose to post rainbows of hope. Another joy is the reading of a book to him. He has learned who all the Thomas the Train characters are and he loves Peppa Pig. As we head into 28 days of Provincial lock down for the 3rd time, I’m so glad that he will be able to continue his Day Care Program as they help him learn social skills and basic life skills.

This first Friday of April is also Good Friday in the Christian Calendar. We remember how Jesus was forced to carry his own cross most of the way to the hill; hung on the cross with thieves on either side of him; and his last words: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Being born in a duck yard does not matter,
if only you are hatched from a swan’s egg.

Day 14 of Quarantine after travel.  Unfortunately our self-isolation has been increased by 2 days.  My stepson had stopped in to see us on the Friday before he left for work.  He now has pneumonia and probably has COVID-19, but is not qualified to be tested as testing is limited to high risk individuals and Health Care Professionals in Ontario.

Once the quarantine period is over our self-isolation won’t change much as everything except essential services is closed and social distancing is still demanded.

The numbers being reported of confirmed cases in Canada keep growing every day.  The number of COVID-19 total cases in Canada was 9,613 as of April 1st, 2020 with 109 confirmed deaths.  The actual number of people with COVID-19 is probably much higher.  Only people at high risk and health care professionals are being tested in Ontario.

The reported numbers in the USA are much higher, even considering that Canada has about 10% of the population of the USA.  President Trump said that over 240,000 Americans could die from COVID-19,

    • Total cases: 186,101
    • Total deaths: 3,603
