The reason a lot of people
do not recognize opportunity is because
it usually goes around wearing overalls
looking like hard work.

~ Thomas A. Edison (American – Inventor / February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931)

Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

One of my favorite stories is of a young Thomas Edison bringing home a note from school addressed to his mother. When he asked her what it said, she told him it said he was too smart to go to school and she would have to continue his education at home. Years later after his mother had passed he found the note. It actually said your child is an imbecile and can not longer attend school. Unfortunately it is just a story of a mother’s love and devotion to her child. Thomas Edison did have hearing problems and didn’t do well at school, so like many children his age he was home schooled by his mother. He grew up to become one of the most well known inventors with over 1,000 patents registered to him (including those he partnered with).

I find it interesting that Edison’s Birthday is the day chosen to celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science. But hard work is always good inspiration for others. Encouragement of girls to study the sciences is so important. To break the stereotypes of girls just excelling at arts and home economics. I think everyone should be encouraged to build on their individual strengths whatever they may be.

Today is also Fat Thursday. The Thursday before Ash Wednesday in the Christian Calendar. As if we needed another reason to eat rich foods during the lockdown.

Grandmother Achievement Day is also on the calendar for February 11th. To me it’s just amazing that I’ve lived long enough to see and spend time with my grandchildren. I can’t wait ’till the lock down is over and I can visit with my grandchildren again. I haven’t been able to see my oldest grandson since before Christmas and he is growing up too fast.

Don’t cling to fame. You’re just borrowing it. It’s like money.
You’re going to die, and somebody else is going to get it.

Do a Grouch a Favor Day

6th Sunday after Epiphany

A tree full of Great-tailed Grackles making all types of noise seem as if they are sirens or ominous portents giving warnings; or perhaps the large blackbirds are part of a Hitchcock Movie.  Mimicking electrical wires, sirens, bells or other electrical equipment, nothing more than nonsense.
