Music is moonlight
in the gloomy night of life.

Today is World Down Syndrome Day. A time to pause and recognize all the accomplishments of those with that extra gene. Once thought to be unable to learn or live independently, those myths have now been disproven as people with Down Syndrome are breaking barriers and starring in movie roles or earning a living as models. Or like Bob at our church, just being active members of the community. Thanks for your inspiration and love.

Get lost on International Day of Forests. Just go into the woods and do some Forest Bathing. Breath in the fresh air and listen to the sound of silence deep in the woods. Or plant some trees to start your own forest right in your own backyard.

To Celebrate World Poetry Day tell or write some poetry.

Un petit morceau de papier;
Pousee par le vent;
Voyait le feu avant;
Et elle pensait
Quand le feu me serra consumé
le vent ne me pousserait plus.

Or you could just celebrate National Healthy Fats Day and eat some healthy fats. 😉

The sky is filled with stars,
invisible by day.

Today is a day for my Granddaughter, Pokemon Day. She knows all the names of all the Pokeman and loves hunting for them.

So on No-Brainer day, it’s a no-brainer that hunting Pokeman is a great way to get exercise and meet new people.

It’s strange the the end of February is when we have National Strawberry Day. But next Week in Plant City Florida, the annual Strawberry Festival begins. So be certain to have a big bowl of Florida Strawberries. 😉

Daily Quote: February 20, 2022

I always wanted to be someone better
the next day than I was the day before.

~ Sidney Poitier
American – Actor / February 20, 1924 – January 6, 2022

Porte Musings:

Today is a day I think Betty White would have celebrated: Love Your Pet Day. If you don’t have a pet, love animals and support your local shelter. Dedicate some of yourself to the health of animals.

Today is also World Day of Social Justice. It’s so hard to watch the news with all the terrible events. From young people being shot in their beds by police during no knock warrants to the Russians lining up along the Ukrainian border, Social Justice seems to be quickly disappearing. Take a stand and work towards a more equal and peaceful world.

Sometimes you just need to eat a piece of pie to feel better. Today have some cherry pie and celebrate National Cherry Pie Day.

Each morning sees some task begun,
each evening sees it close;
Something attempted,
something done,
has earned a night’s repose.

Happy International Polar Bear Day, a day set aside to celebrate the Polar Bear. Climate change is negatively affecting the lives of Polar Bears as their territories shrink. Most of us will never have an opportunity to see live Polar Bears. There is a sanctuary in Cochrane Ontario that my sister travelled to 2 years ago. 4 polar bears live there that wouldn’t be able to survive in the wild. For more information go to: https://canadianpolarbearhabitat.com/

Don’t celebrate International Sword Swallowers Day and International Tongue Twister Contest Day at the same time or you may loose that vital body organ that allows you to taste and talk.

But do have a good bottle of wine available to celebrate Open That Bottle Night tonight. Taste a nice bottle of wine and savour it’s contents. Unless you’re a professional wine taster you don’t have to spit it out. ❤

February 2nd has a strange range of Celebrations. The first is to celebrate World Wetlands Day. Wetlands are the filters of the world. Composed of marshes, ponds, lakes, fens, rivers, floodplains, and swamps. Life thrives there before water leaves streams and rivers to go to larger bodies of water. These shallow bodies of flooded lands play an important role in sustaining life on earth.

Originating in Germany and still celebrated in North America the most associated holiday with February 2nd is Ground Hog Day. We all gather around to see if our favorite ground hog sees his shadow. If he see’s his shadow spring will arrive in 6 weeks. If he doesn’t see his shadow we’ll have an early spring (in about 6 weeks). Then of course there’s my Father’s favorite movie, Ground Hog Day, where Phil, played by Bill Murray wakes up everyday to find he is locked in a loop and must correct his misteak to move forward.

I find it a little strange that Christians celebrate Ground Hog Day on the same day as Candlemas. Celebrated as a National Holiday in Liechtenstein ,Candlemas is the day that is celebrated for the presentation of the Infant Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem. At 40 days after the birth of the Savior, Mary is done her time of purification. Traditionally this is the day that the Manger scenes are put away. Let the light in and light all the candles in your house today.

Daily Quotes: December 16, 2020

I never expected that.
I didn’t aim for that.
All I wanted was to get some nice pictures of trains at night.

~ O. Winston Link (American – Photographer / December 16, 1914 – January 30, 2001)

Holidays and Celebrations:

*O. Winston Link is another example of people who followed their passions and became famous for doing so. His was night-time photos of trains. By following his desire to get “some good pictures of trains at night” he was a major pioneer of night time photography. And he is famous for his pictures of trains at night as the steam engines faded into history.

*Less than 10 days ’til Christmas. Did you buy everything to give to your loved ones? Have you made your list yet? Have you got your Christmas cards mailed. Time to getter done…….
