A real friend is one who walks in when
the rest of the world walks out.

Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

Prayer and fasting continues for Muslims celebrating the 6th day of Ramadan.

Today is World Health Day, eat well, exercise and take your vitamins. Be certain to get your 2nd booster as soon as you are eligible.

The garbage may need to be taken out, the floors swept or the dishes washed, but you have a good reason to let it be and read a good book. Today is National No Housework Day.

By contrast, today is my own private holiday that I always booked off of work as International Window Washing Day. A task to help me see the world more clearly but, can be interrupted by friends and family at any moment, bringing gifts and well wishes. As I turn 65 this year, my bridge pension payment is stopped and my life insurance begins to decline. I start the Old Age Pension and remember all of my friends and family that never had the blessing of growing old. My parents, who died at the ages of 43 and 63; my nursery roommate who has now missed 2 birthdays on earth; my favorite Aunts and Uncles; and even my Paternal Grandmother who died at 93. I’ll have a drink to celebrate one more journey around the sun.

Be certain to keep some coffee cade ready on National Coffee Cake Day just in case window washing is interrupted. 😉

Daily Quote: March 31, 2022

You are never strong enough
that you don’t need help.

~ César Chávez
American – Activist / March 31, 1927 – April 23, 1993

Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

One of the earliest protests I remember is the “don’t buy California Grapes protest“. Where everyone was encouraged to not buy grapes until the workers were treated more fairly. I didn’t know at the time that César Chávez, a farm worker, was the American Latino behind the peaceful demonstration. Please remember that there are peaceful ways to achieve a goal on César Chávez Day. Like White Pelicans fishing in a pond, when we unite we can feed each other.

As the fiscal year comes to an end for many businesses, it’s time to Back-up your data and celebrate World Back-up Day.

My husband will tell you his favorite vegetable is potatoes. So grab a spud and celebrate National Tater Day. 😉

Daily Quote: March 11, 2022

Any time not spent on love is wasted.

~ Torquato Tasso
Italian – Poet / March 11, 1544 – April 25, 1595

Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

Important enough in American Folklore to have 2 days: March 11th and September 26th Johnny Appleseed Day remembers one man’s dream to ensure that apple trees grew everywhere across America.

Today is also Dream Day. So follow your dreams and see where they will take you. They are limited only by your imagination.

I’ve never tried one but today is Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day. Maybe today is the day to try one. 😉

Daily Quote: March 5, 2022

If the world seems cold to you,
kindle fires to warm it.

~ Lucy Larcom
American – Poet / March 5, 1824 – April 17, 1893

Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

Happy Cinco de Marcho. Today it is time to start to get ready for the big drinking holiday of St Patrick’s Day. So, have a toast or two and get ready. A margarita would be good to start, it is after all green. ;

We also celebrate Multiple Personality Day today. So, if you can’t remember things that you’ve been doing, you should see a doctor to see if you have this disorder.

In honour of Canadians, today is National Poutine Day. Be certain to have some of those cheese curds and gravy covered French Fries.

Betty White Quotes: 100 + 47 Days

You know what the problem that animal activists sometimes have?
They only concentrate on the heartbreaking things
to the point where the general public thinks,
‘Oh, here comes those animal folks again
and I’m going to hear all the things
I don’t want to hear.’

~ Betty White
