Porte Musings:
The Third Monday in January is celebrated as Martin Luther King Jr Day. A day in the USA to remember Martin Luther King Jr.
Today is also Tu Bishvat. The Jewish people give tithes to the poor or Levites today. Or the new year for trees. Any fruit on trees more than 4 years old may now be eaten. Today is also celebrated by planting new trees.
In celebration of what would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday many are taking the Betty White Challenge to give $5 to their Humane Society, Shelter or other animal welfare group. $5 is such a small amount, but just imagine if everyone in North America were to give $5. My little Rickie came from the Animal Shelter in Tampa Florida. The shelter was a capacity and all the excess dogs were going to be euthanized, when the local radio station heard, they sponsored the dogs for adoption, only $20 for any dog to spare them from being euthanized. Neutered, shots, microchipped and licensed. There were over 250 to choose from. We adopted Rickie almost 8 years ago. Although my husband will tell you he wanted a chihuahua, Rickie has been the love of our lives for the past 8 years.
For all you hot heads, today is National Hot Heads Chili Day. So spice it up a bit and enjoy some hot peppers. 😉
