Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

I’m uncertain why today is Jackie Robinson Day. His birthday is in January. He certainly deserves to have a day in remembrance of his struggles as the first Black Man to play baseball professionally. So wear a 42 today in remembrance of Jackie Robinson.

Today, unfortunately is also Titanic Remembrance Day. The day the unsinkable ship hit an iceberg and sank killing about 1,500 passengers because there weren’t enough life boats. Since then we have developed more stringent safety regulations for ships. I’m looking forward to being able to take a cruise again when the pandemic restrictions are lifted and the borders are re-opened again for travel.

A COVID-19 outbreak in a local meat packaging plant, in London Ontario, will lead McDonalds to import chicken McNuggets from the USA until the plant can be safely re-opened. So celebrate McDonald’s Day with a Big Mac and fries.

April the 15th is a birthday for many well known and loved people, from Leonardo Da Vinci to Roy Clark and Elizabeth Montgomery. All great artists. So celebrate World Art Day by either studying, enjoying or making some are of your own. I’ve been very glad to learn to paint during the Stay at Home orders. The online tutorials by Jesse Robertson are excellent. I can’t wait to attend one in person.

  1. Love your painting! I took a couple of “Bob Ross” painting classes from our local library pre-covid. I do miss the in-person library classes and look forward to attending those again someday, I hope. That and cruises, too!

    1. Thank you. I’m running out of canvases and they aren’t considered essential so I won’t be able to buy them at the dollar store. I may have to order some from Amazon. 😉
