Daily Quote: February 12, 2012

A man’s friendships are one of
the best measures of his worth.

~ Charles Darwin (English – Scientist / February 12, 1809 – April 19, 1882)

Holidays and Celebrations:

Porte Musings:

Happy Chinese New Year. Even though the dragons won’t be dancing in the streets, we can still be certain to celebrate with some Chinese food.

February 12th is not only Darwin’s Birthday, but it is also Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday. So I guess it should really be called “Thinker’s Day”. President’s Day is next Monday in the USA (the Monday after Lincoln’s Birthday.) But with Lincoln on the American Penny, Lincoln’s Birthday is also called National Lost Penny Day. In Canada we really could celebrate Lost Penny Day as pennies haven’t been minted since May 2012, they’ve been eliminated from our currency. Debit and Credit Cards still add up the cents, but cash is rounded up or down to the nearest nickel.

And the biggest reason of all to celebrate February 12th is it’s Paul Bunyan Day. Get out those tall tale books and remember how Paul and Babe the Blue Ox playfully created the Great Lakes. Giant tales of the giant lumberjack.
