Life is like a landscape.
~ Charles Lindbergh (American – Aviator / February 4, 1902 – August 26, 1974)
You live in the midst of it but can describe it only from the vantage point of distance.
Holidays and Celebrations:
Porte Musings:
Remembering World Cancer Day, none of us has been left untouched by Cancer. My husband was lucky enough to survive Kidney Cancer. Cancer has stolen the lives of my Father (small cell cancer), my Aunt (breast cancer), my Uncle (bone cancer), my brother-in-law (throat cancer), my Grandson’s other Grandfather, my Niece (Brain Cancer), my Nursery Room Mate… So give generously to the Cancer Society to find a cure for cancer.
Rosa Parks Day is also celebrated today. She refused to move to the back of the bus on December 1, 1955. Laws that were created to keep “Blacks” in their place and supported the idea of segregation have been eroded ever since the defiant act of one person. As part of Black History Month it’s important to remember people like Rosa Parks and why they fought for equality. Don’t re-write history, remember so we don’t repeat.
Less than a week to go with the current Ontario Lock-down and we’re all chomping at the bit to get out of the house and praying that the COVID-19 numbers have come down enough to allow businesses to re-open. More importantly that we can have diner again with extended family members.
During the lockdown Canada Post Workers at the office I worked in in Mississauga have experienced first hand one of the biggest outbreaks in Ontario. Almost 300 people tested positive and all 4,500 employees at the facility were told to get tested, one person has died. Postal workers have remained on the job throughout the Pandemic. Delivering parcels at record volumes and our connection to the outside world as we remained “Safe at Home”. So remember to Thank Your Mailman today.
During this time of lock down we’ve all become more home and food centered. So, today it will be easy to celebrate National Homemade Soup Day. A nice bowl of homemade soup and dumplings is one of those comfort foods that warms our souls as well as our bodies.
Love soup – although I usually open a can for soup! Now shouldn’t “Thank your Mailman Day” be renamed? I hope your lockdown is over soon! Enjoy your day!
