Hugh Ramsey Nature Park

Located near Harlingen International Airport Hugh Ramsey Nature Park is a hidden gem.  It’s amazing that so many animals unique to the Rio Grande Valley can be seen in one location adjacent to a major road.  Several bird blinds and feeders are located along the trails providing ample opportunities for viewing and taking pictures.  No admission fees or charges for parking, so it makes for an inexpensive afternoon of entertainment, learning and exercise.

It was the first time I ever saw a Javelina (similiar to a wild pig, but originating from North America), and a Green Jay.  I was also able to get pictures of the Chachalacas (only found in the Rio Grande Valley.)
