What can be added to the happiness of a man who is in health,
out of debt, and has a clear conscience?

Pictured above are the flowers of a Pawpaw tree.

Found in Southwestern Ontario there is active discussion as to whether the Pawpaw tree is a true native species or not.

On tour of the Cuddy Gardens our guide said:

Although probably not a native tree in this area it is common in Southwestern Ontario at various Underground Railroad terminals.  Possibly from discarded  seeds of people seeking freedom, who took fruit that was readily available in the Southern United States and left behind to grow as people continued their journey to freedom.

According to Why an Ontario naturalist wants to Make Pawpaws Great Again

Once cultivated by First Nations, the pawpaw remained popular in the years after colonization but faded into obscurity in the 20th century. The fruits are easily bruised, have a short shelf life, and refuse to ripen simultaneously at harvest time — not ideal for large-scale agriculture.
