I would venture to warn against too great intimacy with artists
as it is very seductive and a little dangerous.
~ Queen Victoria (May 24, 1819 – January 22, 1901)
Still celebrated, Queen Victoria is now recorded as the 2nd longest reigning Monarch (Queen Elizabeth II is now the longest). Canadians look forward to the Victoria Day long weekend in May.
Often referred to as the “May 24 Weekend” or the unofficial start of summer. Gardeners rejoice as it is deemed to be the “safe” time to plant tender annuals as the risk of frost is past in Southern Ontario. Campers usually celebrate in one of the Provincial or National Parks. Families embrace the time together with BBQ’s and picnics.
And as my mother used to say:
The 24th of May is the Queen’s birthday
if you don’t give us a holiday
we’ll all run away.
